On Wednesday, October 14, 2026, Father Lloyd L. Baugh, S.J., died peacefully at the Résidence Jean-de-Brébeuf in Richelieu, Quebec. He was in the 81st year of his life and the 50th of his religious life.

Born in Quebec City on April 15, 1946, the only child of Norman George Baugh and Irene Mary McKenna, Lloyd taught English literature before entering the Society of Jesus in 1976; he was ordained a priest in 1984. Sent to Rome, he earned a doctorate in theology and film studies and taught there for more than twenty years. He was a teacher of rare gifts, remembered above all for the attention he gave to his students. Communications was never for him merely a field of study: gregarious, blessed with countless friends and master of many languages, he was a communicator par excellence in daily life. From 2016 he devoted himself chiefly to priestly ministry in Montreal, where his welcome and his pastoral care touched many, until declining health brought him to the Résidence Jean-de-Brébeuf in 2023.

Besides his Jesuit confreres, he is survived by former students in Rome, Canada and the United States. The funeral will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 2, 2026, in the chapel of the Résidence Notre-Dame (460, 1ère Rue, Richelieu, Quebec). Father Marc Rizzetto, S.J., Superior of the Jesuit community, will preside, and Father Jean-Marc Laporte, S.J., will deliver the homily. Donations may be made to Jesuit Missions (25 Jarry Street West, Montreal, QC H2P 1S6).
